FFP EP 158! THE BOOK OF JAMES: BOASTING ABOUT TOMORROW Featuring: Joshua Cummins, Sterling Metcalfe-Allen, Jim aka Darmak and Dana Christensen. #fatih #family #politics #fun #bible #jesus #james4 Faith: James 4:13-17 is a warning against human arrogance and presumptuous planning. It teaches that making plans while ignoring God's sovereignty is flawed because life is brief and unpredictable. It concludes by stating that knowing the right thing to do and failing to do it is a sin. Family: 1. The Arrogance of Presumptive Planning (Verses 13-14) James addresses people who make confident business and life plans for the future as if they are entirely in control. He reminds readers that the future is unknown and that human life is short, comparing it to a "mist" or "vapor" that quickly vanishes. 2. Including God in Your Plans (Verses 15-16) Rather than boasting about tomorrow, the passage encourages an attitude of humility and submission to God's will. James notes that it is wise to frame one's future endeavors around the condition, "If the Lord wills". Planning is not condemned, but doing so with total self-reliance is considered arrogant. 3. The Sin of Omission (Verse 17) The section concludes with a broad ethical principle: "Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin". This means that failing to act on God's will or neglecting to do the right thing is just as much of a wrongdoing as committing an active, deliberate offense.
